In the last blog post, I mentioned that experts state that the number one reason why a person drowns is because they panic. Well, what is panic or better yet, what does it mean to be panicking? According to the New Oxford American Dictionary, panic is ” sudden uncontrollable fear or anxiety, often causing wildly unthinkable behavior”.
There are so many different types of fears a person can face but I believe at the root of all of them is the fear of dying or being gravely injured. If you think through a fear you may be facing, at the end of the fear, what is it that you are really afraid of? Why are some people so fearful of heights? Because they believe that if they fall, they may die or become severely injured. However, once you realize that there is nothing to fear, you have a different view of the thing that once petrified you. Unfortunately, most people stop at the fear and never attempt to overcome it.
The reason why the thought of being thrown into the deep end of the pool may petrify you is that you realize that you don’t know how to swim well enough to survive. You are ill-prepared. That’s right, you have been chilling around the pool all summer but never thought it necessary to take swimming lessons. You know that its dangerous to play around water but you never think about what you will do if you get thrown into the pool. Such is life. Most people can’t handle a serious financial crisis. Most are one paycheck away from bankruptcy and yet we are in the worst economic time in our lifetime. This is not the time to panic, it is time for you to figure out how to survive. Remember, it starts in your mind. You can spend the majority of your time focused on the difficulty in life you are facing, but while you are focused on how hard things are, you are not moving forward in essence you may find yourself slowly sinking. It is time for you to pull on the knowledge that you do have and survive and while your head is still above the water, you need to yell for help!
This was really good and very true. Thank you so much for sharing
My pleasure.
